The oxidation of CO is considered one of the most studied reactions in heterogeneous catalysis. Although several studies have been developed on this topic, the impact of some properties of the catalysts, such as oxygen mobility, number of active sites and the preferentially exposed facets, on the performance of these materials remains uncertain. In this work, catalysts based on nickel-promoted carbon nanotubes will be studied, comparing with other promoters and the commercial support of alumina, for the selective oxidation of CO, investigating how the oxygen mobility of the oxides structure affects catalytic performance and how the number of Ni active sites and the nature of the exposed facets influence the oxidation of CO on nanostructures with surface morphology, shape, size and chemical composition presented in the carbon nanotubes. Catalysts based on carbon nanotubes with Ni nanoparticles will be prepared by the wet impregnation method of the respective nitrates. The catalytic performances will be related to the structural oxygen mobility of the materials. The results for the 5% Ni / MWNTC and Ni / Al2O3 catalysts will be compared with their activity, in relation to the amount of metal present on the surface. The catalysts will be characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and temperature-programmed reduction with H2 (TPR-H2).
