Evaluation of bone parameters obtained by histomorphometry, HR-pQCT and trabecular bone score in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory disease that affects women aged 40-50 years with chronic polyarthritis, often associated with deformity and disability. The primary RA lesion occurs in the articular synovium and the subchondral bone invasion represents the localized bone involvement. Patients with RA also have a generalized bone involvement, with alteration of bone microcachirecture, reduction of bone mass, bone fragility and greater risk of fractures. There are no studies in the literature evaluating local and generalized bone involvement in RA patients using bone histomorphometry, High-Resolution peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (HR-pQCT), and bone Trabecular Score (TBS) simultaneously.
