Abstract

An increase of 70% on worldwide energy demands will be necessary for 2050.However, international agreements indicates will be necessary a greenhouse gases (GHG)reduction about 50%, consequently, the energy demands could be limited to 25% for the same year. The biomass is based on carbon and this carbon can be converted to fuel using biologic and thermochemical processes. The co-firing of biomass is considered an attractive option for the energy generation due to economic and environmental benefices. The co-firing advent ages involves the greater volatility of biomass which improves combustion characteristics when compare to pure carbon. Actually, many researches pointed that the uses of terrified biomass has bigger fixed carbon and lower volatile material when compares with biomass, however, there is few researches about co-firing uses biochar. The biochar is a solid fuel can be produced by slow pyrolysis using agro-industrial wastes; its uses would conduces to a high environmental gain, besides that, he high fixed carbon content can improves the combustion processes. In this context, the mixtures between coal and terrified biomass caught the attention, but little is known about the uses of carbon and biochar mixtures. The main objective of this research is to develop a greater knowledge using carbon-biochar mixture on the co-firing process, for that, it will be used biochar derived of rice husk, because this type of waste has a large environmental liability, once this waste has a difficult reuse. This study will provide key information for the best operation of combustion system. (AU)
