Abstract

The term snacks is intended for foods and beverages with a high energy content and low nutritional value, consumed outside the normal mealtime (breakfast, lunch and dinner), ingested in a period of fifteen minutes or less. There is a growing worldwide trend in the consumption of this type of food. In Brazil, consumption is reported by 74% of Brazilians aged 10 years or more. Some studies show association between the consumption of snacks and overweight, others have not found this relationship. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the nutritional status and consumption of snacks in adolescents and young adults living in the city of São Paulo. Data from the ''Inquorate of health of São Paulo - ISA capital - 2015'' will be used. The sample of the present study will be composed of 700 individuals (475 adolescents between 12 and 18 years old and 225 young adults aged 19 to 29 years). Individuals answered a structured questionnaire applied by interviewers previously trained during the first home visit. Physical activity was measured by IPAC and alcohol intake by the AUDIT. In addition, two 24-hour dietary reminders (R24h) were collected. Data from R24h were entered in the Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR) version 2014. The foods considered as snacks will be grouped according to the eating habits of the population of São Paulo and data from the literature. For the analysis of the data will be used the online Multiple Source Method (MSM) and STATA version 13 software (survey mode), in which a prevalence, frequency and average consumption of snacks will be calculated and a logistic regression model applied.
