Abstract

It is known that the loss of the ocular globe leads to a decrease in peri-orbital musculature tone, but there is a lack of studies investigating the influence of partial or total loss of ocular content, as well as its rehabilitation, on head and neck muscles. On the known interaction between facial and cervical muscles, this study aims to evaluate whether the rehabilitation of patient who were submitted to evisceration or enucleation, with new ocular prosthesis is capable of influencing the electromyographic amplitude of the occipitofrontal, anterior temporal, masseter and sternocleidomastoid muscles and the null hypothesis tested will be that the rehabilitation of patient, who were submitted to evisceration or enucleation, with new ocular prosthesis is capable of influencing the electromyographic amplitude of the occipitofrontal, anterior temporal, masseter and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Fifteen patients will be selected from the Clinic of the Oral Oncology Center of the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba-UNESP. The patients will undergo surface electromyographic examinations of the occipitofrontal, anterior temporal, masseter and sternocleidomastoid muscles during rest, mouth opening and facial expression of happiness, fear, disgust, anger, surprise and sadness. The data obtained from the tests will be submitted to the normality test. If indicates a statistically significant difference, the adequate probability test will be applied, using correlation test, concluding the analysis. (AU)
