The universal adhesive systems represent a promising category, mainly due to properties of the functional monomer 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP), bases of these adhesive systems, which also allows distinct technical approaches. Simultaneously, the chlorexidine (CHX) is evidenced as anti-proteolitic agent in attempt to avoid the enzymatic degradation that occur in dentin in demineralization situations. As the mechanism of action of the 10-MDP and CHX are dependents on calcium interaction, the combined use of these substances could invalidate the isolated benefits of themselves. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the interaction of CHX (digluconate 2%) and a universal adhesive system with 10-MDP, in self-etching mode evaluating bond strength to dentin in different artificially produced substrates, carious and eroded, frequent clinically found. Additionally, a complementary characterization of the hybrid layer be carried out bymeans of SEM analysis and percentage of components, especially calcium, by means of the Dispersive Energy Spectroscopy (EDS / EDX) method. One hundred and twenty third molars will be prepared and randomized in three groups according to the condition dentin: healthy (control), carious and eroded. Half of the dentin specimens will be treated with water (control) and other half with aqueous solution of 2% digluconate chlorexidine. All the specimens will be restored with Adper Single Bond Universal adhesive system and composite resin Filtek Z250 before the desired analysis. The data will be submitted to statistical analysis for interpretation of the results. Based on this experimental design, we will forward with investigations of this research rationale, focusing on the dental substrate and calcium availability, since most of the studies ignore this relevant condition.
