Abstract

The aim of this study will be to analyze the bioactivity of surface-treated titanium miniplates by plasma electrolytic oxidation on bone healing of rats underwent to femur fracture, induced to osteoporosis. Therefore, it will be selected sixteen six months female wistar rats wherein half of them undergo to bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) and half of them to bilateral ovariectomy fictional surgery (SHAM). After that, it will be awaited three months to induce osteoporosis and the animals undergo to simulation both femurs fractures and fixed with miniplates and screws of 1.5 mm system. Half samples will have surface-treated titanium miniplates by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), which will be in contact with healing "gap"(experimental group). The other half samples will have machined-surface titanium miniplates (MS)(control group). The animals will be euthanized at 60 days post-operative. The collected samples will be sent to the processing of calcified tissues, initially by computerized microtomography for evaluation of the bone volume parameters (BV and BV/TV) and bone quality (Tb.Th, Tb.Sp and Tb.N). The samples will be processed through inclusion in photopolymerizable resin. After that, histologic slices will be stained with alizarin red and Stevenel blue for histrometric analysis of new bone formation area on healing "gap". The miniplates from will be analyzed by MEV and EDS at two periods: baseline and after healing period, to analyze the possible topographic changes and of chemical composition. In addition, blood from all animals will be collected for immunoassay (ELISA) analysis for the dosage of estrogen between the groups. The quantitative data undergo to normality curve to established the better statistic test (parametric or non-parametric), considering P < 0.05 as significant. (AU)
