Breakfast consumption is known to provide health benefits, contributing to a healthy diet, and assisting in controlling risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Among the population, its structure can acquire various compositions, with different foods, and consequently, different nutritional qualities. In this context, breakfast quality index comes as a tool to synthesize its nutritional quality in a quantitative way. However, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the indexes validity and their association with health outcomes. Objective: To evaluate the validity and reliability of Brazilian Breakfast Quality Index and its association with cardiometabolic risk factors in residents of São Paulo city, reliability and relationship with cardiometabolic risk factors in residents of São Paulo city. Methods: Data were drawn from the 2015 São Paulo Health Survey, a cross-sectional population-based study. 413 Adolescents, 506 adults, and 447 elderly persons living in São Paulo city were included. The breakfast quality was evaluated by the Brazilian Breakfast Quality Index, and then classified as low, medium or high, according to the score given. The variables were described, and the associations between Breakfast Quality Index with cardiometabolic risk, demographic, socioeconomic and lifestyle variables were determined using multiple regression models. Index performance will be measured from content validity criteria, discriminatory validity and reliability. All analyses were conducted considering the sample design of the study. (AU)
