Abstract

The educational practices used by parents in relation to their children are influenced by multiple variables; Among them is depression, which favors the use of negative practices and which is predictive of behavioral problems. On the other hand, educational social skills related to positive practices improve parent-child interactions, reducing behavioral problems, and expanding child social skills. Thus, the objective of this study is to describe and correlate the positive and negative parental educational practices of parents (men) with and without clinical diagnosis of depression and its relation to the behavior of their children, according to the age group and the schooling children. For this, 30 biological parents of children enrolled in the preschool will participate in the study, 15 of them with clinical diagnosis for depression and 15 without this diagnosis, measured by diagnostic instruments. Parents will respond to the tests to assess child behaviors and parental practices. After the data are collected and tabulated, the analyzes will occur in order to describe and correlate the variables of interest of the study. It is hoped, then, to verify how the paternal depression is associated to the children behaviors and educational practices. (AU)
