Associated to the scholarship:17/02795-1 - Effects of a whole-body vibration on quadriceps femoris muscles in dogs with hip dysplasia, BP.MS

Whole-body vibration has been studied as an alternative to palliative treatment to human patients with osteoarthritis. Evidences of increase of muscle strength, improvement of bone metabolism and proprioception have been observed in patients treated with whole-body vibration. Pressure walkway systems have been used to evaluate kinetic data, disorders of locomotion and progressing of rehabilitation and other treatments. However, the outcome of pressure plate analysis relies in adequate data collection and data analysis. The present research aims to analyse the kinetic data in dogs with lameness and pain of the hip joint before, during and after whole-body vibration sessions. The candidate will train on biomechanical data analysis relevant for her project with the research group of the Veterinary Biomechanics Laboratory of the University of Surrey - Guilford/ UK for a period of five months. Furthermore, this opportunity of research internship will be essential for the candidate to improve the knowledge in canine gait analysis, particularly on kinetic and kinematic gait analysis, and to establish an international partnership for future research collaborations.
