Abstract

Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) is the set of tumors that have mostly origin in squamous cells. It ranks 6th among the most common cancers in the world and each year, it is estimated that more than 633,000 new cases are diagnosed. Approximately 75% of the cases present the disease in an advanced stage (III and IV), for which the prognosis is poor. In the usual treatment, cisplatin chemotherapy has been used concomitantly with radiotherapy for inoperable carcinomas and it has been related to better survival and adherence to therapy, and case-by-case assessment is required due to the occurrence of severe adverse effects that limit the therapy, especially those related to nephrotoxicity. This study will verify the relationship of genetic polymorphisms of cytochrome P450 enzymes and carriers of ABC, OCT2 and MAPE1 families with plasma oxidative stress and toxicity induced by cisplatin treatment in patients with Head and Neck Cancer. Therefore, this study aims to provide tools to improve the treatment of patients with Head and Neck Cancer submitted to cisplatin therapy in the context of personalized medicine. For this, we will use blood and urine samples to determine the toxicity charts, as well as oxidative stress. Through q-PCR the genetic profiles of the cited genes will be determined and the data will be correlated. It is hoped that the results obtained will enable biomarkers of toxicity to be available in the future. (AU)
