Associated scholarship(s):19/05017-5 - Endometrial expression of inflammatory cytokines and proteomics of endometrial fluid of susceptible mares to persistent breeding-induced endometritis treated with platelet-rich plasma, BE.EP.DR

In the horse market the offspring of proven breeders are more valued, however this usually happens when mares already have advanced age and progeny proven on the competitions. This encourages to maintenance of these animals, even with low reproductive rates, in reproductive programs. In this context persistent breeding-induced endometritis (PBIE) has important impacts, being considered the third most frequent disease affecting horses and the main cause of subfertility in this species. Studies using immunomodulatory drugs have shown good results in reducing the inflammatory process, as well as increasing the fertility of these animals. More recently, the use of PRP has proved to be beneficial in the treatment of PBIE, increasing conception rates. The PRP is already widely used in veterinary medicine, in the treatment of the most diverse affections, mainly tendinous, osteoarticular, ligamentary and cutaneous lesions, as it presents mitogenic, chemotactic, neovascular and anti-inflammatory action. In this context, the present study aims to evaluate the endometrial expression of inflammatory interleukins of mares treated with PRP, as well as the proteomics of the endometrial fluid of these animals. In our laboratory, it has been observed that PRP is beneficial in the treatment of susceptible mares to PBIE, reducing the uterine inflammatory process, decreasing the number of neutrophils and COX-2 expression in the endometrium of these mares. However, further studies on the use of PRP in the treatment of mares susceptible to PBIE are necessary for the real knowledge of the action of this agent in the endometrial inflammatory process.
