Abstract

This research project will approach the one-dimensional cutting stock problem and its applications in industrial contexts. The cutting stock problem is central in the production planning in industries, in which the cutting stage of larger objects into smaller items is relevant. Mathematical models proposed in the literature will be studied and solution methods will be implemented and tested using an optimization package. The objective is that the student learns about important concepts of mathematical optimization and obtains skills for mathematical/computational tools development, preparing him for future researches in the area.
