Transition between pre-clinical and clinical training: dental students' perception about adoption ergonomic principles

Abstract

The difficulty faced in the clinical transition process is influenced by the acquired preclinical skills and that adequate preclinical training can assist in a smooth transition between preclinical and clinical. Thus, it is important to identify the challenges faced by students in establishing healthy postural habits also in this phase of transition. Therefore, the present study intends to evaluate, in a qualitative way, the perceptions of students of the 3rd year of the undergraduate course in Dentistry, on the application of the principles of ergonomics during the transition phase between the pre-clinical and clinical training of Restorative Dentistry. This is an observational cross-sectional, qualitative, with non-probabilistic sampling design. The sample is composed by students of the third years of Dentistry, in Araraquara Dental School. Data collection will be through open interviews and semi-structured individual, which will be recorded in digital voice recorder. Students will be interviewed in their own university environment, in time previously scheduled, taking care to provide an environment and welcoming booked to perform the same. There will be a script containing questions related to the dental students adaptation process to clinical training considering ergonomic posture. The data will be analyzed by thematic content analysis using NVivo 11 (QSR International Pty Ltda). (AU)
