Interpellation and intersectionality in Luandino Vieira and Pepetela

Abstract

This project aims to explore the work of Luandino Viera and Pepetela, writers connected to the anti-colonial movement and the post-independence in Angola. Its main objective is to outline, through a comparision between both authors, how the available and disputed social places in the urban context of Luanda are portrayed in their writings. Based on the context of enunciation of social designators, especially derogative forms of naming and accusation, the research will focus on the intersectionality of regional ethnic, gender, and class designators as well as on the complex social places to which these forms of naming point. The underlying hypothesis guiding this investigation is that literature is not simply a reflex of the sociocultural and political context in which it is produced, rather, it bears with it relations of reproduction, dispute, and displacement.
