Abstract

The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the association of fluoride-treated and supplemented with sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and amorphous calcium casephosphate (CPP-ACP) phosphotype (MI Paste Plus®) may increase the remineralization of lesions of caries. Bovine enamel blocks (4 mm × 4 mm, n = 72) will have their enamel surface polished to determine the initial surface hardness (HS). After they will be submitted to the induction of artificial caries lesions and the post-demineralization hardness (SH1) will be determined. The experimental design will be randomized and the blocks divided into 6 treatment groups (n = 12): 1) Dentifrice without F (Placebo); 2) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F (1100F), 3) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F associated with MI Paste Plus® (1100F / MI Paste Plus®), 4) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP (1100F/TMP) 5) MI Paste Plus® and 6) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP associated with MI Paste Plus® (1100F / TMP / MI Paste Plus®). The blocks will be submitted to 6 pH cycling for 6 days. For all groups treatments will be performed 2x/day for 1 minute, except for group 5, which after treatment with 1100F/TMP, will be applied MI Paste Plus®/3 minutes. The final surface hardness (SH2) will be determined for the calculation of the surface hardness recovery percentage (%SHR). The data will be submitted to the tests of normality and homogeneity to use the statistical test most appropriate to the data distribution. (AU)
