Abstract

The present project has as a goal approaching the set of norms and transgressions related to life of enslaved and free women who, in the main urban centers of Brazil, in the second half of the XVIII century, were in charge of the wandering commerce of alimentary goods and other products. It is used, here, the idea that the universe of the so called black women of tray and gain, to use an expression know in the specialized historiography, is adequate for a research of scientific initiation, as it has primary documentation, yet to be submitted to the historiography critique and it also has a historiography, by some point of views, already developed. During the execution of their functions, those women usually faced prisons, punishments, and would even respond to police and judiciary reports, being accused of practices, by the time, claimed as clandestine and reprehensible. In this way, by the analysis of the legislation surrounding the subject and of the police reports, and judicial processes produced, in the century, inside the cities, camps and mining areas of the Minas Gerais captaincy, regions that cover cities like Mariana, Diamantina, Ouro Preto, Vila do Carmo, Vila Rica, and others, the present research will try to comprehend and interpret the tensions and social relations lived by these women in the daily life of the colonial universe.
