Abstract

From the 90s of last century, the commercial application of metals with amorphous structure is being observed in products such as micro gears, springs and watches and mobile phones housings. This is due to the development of new compositions and processes that allow the production of large parts "bulks" (with dimensions of the order of millimeters or centimeters in contrast to the traditional amorphous ribbons with a few tens of microns thick) with exceptional mechanical properties. The major challenges, scientific and technological, are the development of new compositions that have high glass forming ability (GFA) and the development of manufacturing technology of the parts with geometry and required dimensions (bulk parts), the latter with the challenge of low thermal stability of amorphous structure. This project aims to contribute to the development of route for the manufacture of bulk samples of Fe-based vitreous alloy with the production of powders from the milling of atomized splats of the glassy alloy Fe43.2Co28.8B19 .2Si4.8Nb4 and subsequent consolidation of the powders for the manufacture of bulk samples (cylindrical bodies with a diameter greater than 5.0 mm), with the maintenance of the amorphous structure of the splats by the hot extrusion process.
