Abstract

Among the substances with potential for endocrine disruption, such as Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), is a persistent organic pollutant widely distributed in the environment. Studies have shown that BaP accumulates in vital and reproductive organs, including the testis; and may interfere with the steroidogenesis process through interaction with the StAR protein in mitochondria. However, most studies evaluate BaP exposure in adulthood, and data on exposure during puberty (critical period of reproduction) are absent in literature. This project aims to evaluate the effects of exposure to benzo (a) pyrene during puberty on reproductive parameters of male rats in adult life. For this, will be used Wistar pubertal male rats (n = 40; 23 days old) distributed in control group (corn oil + DMSO); and three groups receiving doses of BaP: 0.1; 1.0 or 10 ¼g / kg / day. The treatment will occur for 31 consecutive days, orally. Clinical signs of toxicity and the puberty of these animals will be evaluated during treatment. In adult life, the following parameters will be evaluated: fertility test, male sexual behavior, hormonal dosage, sperm parameters and quantification of StAR protein. (AU)
