Abstract

This request is part of the CEPID - Center of Metropolitan Studies project, phase IV, of which I have been of the main researchers in the area entitled "Inequality, Social Conditions and Public Policies in Contemporary Brazil", with the sub-project "Metropolization , mobility and socio-spatial segregation of the population". By emphasizing the socio-demographic aspects of growth and production process of metropolitan urban space, the research concerns the role of spatial mobility (or immobility) in the dynamics of territorial expansion of metropolitan regions within the state of São Paulo, as well as its causes and consequences both on the living conditions of families and people and on the process of socio-spatial segregation. The main objectives for the requested scholarship are: a) to carry out a literature review on the metropolization process with focus on European countries and their respective demographic and socio-territorial expansion dynamics; b) to start off a research about the role of Brazilian Metropolitan Areas in the national migration process, with emphasis on their power of demographic attraction and retention. The secondary objectives are: c) to participate as a collaborator professor in disciplines related to Demography and Migration and to further my knowledge of the graduate program developed by CED; e) to establish future partnerships with the researchers at CED, aiming at the advancement of a scientific cooperation process.
