It is well known in the literature that an ecosystem dynamic can be complex, non-linear and unpredictable. Those characteristics are relevant to habitat management and forest restoration activities. Besides that, because it presents a potential for sudden changes, an ecosystem may be more vulnerable than expected. In order to analyze the dynamics of an ecosystems, computational simulations have become promising tools of interest to severalresearchers. In this sense, the objective of the proposed research project is to develop a mathematical/computational model using the Cellular Automata technique capable to predict a positive successional trajectory of a given restoration experiment through direct sowing. More specifically, this model will provide a numerical approach of the basal area evolution from a set of trees located in the Edgárdia Farm, Botucatu (SP), which belongs to the Ecology and Restoration Laboratory in the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences.The performance of the proposed model will be tested by comparing the obtained numerical solution with real data available.
