Abstract

Mananas are a new generation of yeast-based prebiotics, developed from a cell wall purification process that results in high content of water-soluble functional mannanigosaccharides, in order to modulate the environment and intestinal immunity. This dissertation aims to evaluate the effects of the inclusion of two different products based on mannan on the digestibility, microbial fermentation and some immunological parameters of adult dogs. For the study, a single formulation deployed in three treatments, with the control treatment with 0% (T0), treatment 1 with 0.30% (T1) and treatment 2 with 0.30% (T2) of purified mannan from yeast cell wall. It will be used 24 adult Beagle dogs, with 8 repetitions per food, in a randomized block design. Each block will last 30 days, and at the beginning and the end of the period some immunological parameters will be assessed: plasma concentration of tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukins 6 and 10; ex vivo production of intermediates oxygen and nitrogen reactives by mononuclear and polymorphonuclear cells in peripheral blood; phagocytic capacity of monocytes and neutrophils and IgA concentration in feces. In addition, it will be evaluated the apparent nutrient digestibility, production and quality of feces and fermentation products (short and branched chain fatty acids, lactate, ammonia and pH) and biogenic amines in dog's feces. The data obtained will be evaluated in terms of the homoscedasticity of the variances and normality of the errors, being later submitted to the analysis of variance with measures repeated in the time. Alternatively, if there will be differences between groups at baseline, simple analysis of variance will be used and the time 0 (baseline) will be used as a covariate. If differences will be obtained in Test F, means will be compared by the Tukey test (P <0.05). (AU)
