Abstract

Changes in the morphology, physiology and behaviors of a species are reflexes of natural and/or artificial selection. These processes lead to specific genomics changes, so-called Selection Signatures (SS). The aim of the current study is search for SS in dairy buffaloes population raised in Brazil, in order to identify genomic regions potentially associated to economical traits underwent selection. A total of 652 samples of Murrah, genotyped to around 90,000 markers, contained in the panel Buffalo Axiom Genotyping, will be used. The genetic data will be submitted to quality control for markers and samples. The scanning of SS within population will be performed through of three different methodologies with different perspectives on selection signals: runs of homozygozity; the integrated haplotype score and the number of Segregating sites by Length (nSL). The genomic region highlighted as SS by any of approaches will be compared to results obtained with genome-wide association in buffaloes and explored for gene search, considering the UMD v3.1 assembly of the bovine genome. There is no knowledge about other studies using genomic tools to detect SS in buffaloes. Thus, it is justified the development of the current project with a purpose of generating information by different methodologies of SS identification, which is subsidized later studies. (AU)
