Abstract

The expressive possibilities inside the field of Design have currently an wider approach with the appearance of new technologies that allow the conception of high complex shapes and structures, like 3D printing. Looking for stablishing a relationship between Surface Design and Complexity, this project aims for configuring a link with 'chaos', 'complex's systems', 'emergence' and 'self-organization'. The arising of CAD (Computer aided design) and the development of tools for digital geometry supported the beginning of Generative and Parametric modeling. The evolution of this new tools it is based on the collaboration between engineering, artificial intelligence and information technology, with biomimetic and the inspiration in complex systems of nature. Starting with the investigation of these disciplines and concepts, it will be accomplished a comparative research of cases and an analysis of surface construction through different types of geometric algorithms. Therefore, it will be exemplified a state of art of contemporary work and proposed new perspectives for Surface Design future. The specifics of the design could transit from architecture up to textile surface and there will be considered the emergency of new creative processes as much as new rapid prototype manufacturing technologies inside the design field.
