The modernization of agricultural practices has led to an exaggerated increase in the use of chemical compounds in order to maximize production. Among these, pesticides can cause various deleterious effects on aquatic organisms. In temperate regions there is a great deal of information about the sensitivity of test organisms native to these contaminants to these regions, whereas in the tropics the biological and ecotoxicological knowledge for native species is still scarce. Thus, risk assessments are largely based on data obtained for species from temperate regions and even many of the species used in toxicity trials come from temperate regions. However, given the geo-climatic differences and sensitivity to each compound being species-specific, information for native tropical species is urgently needed to obtain realistic ecological risk assessments. In this context, the objective of the present study is to compare the differences in the sensitivity of cladocerans from tropical and temperate regions and for this, we will use as native organisms: Ceriodaphnia silvestrii, Daphnia laevis, Machrothrix flabelligera, Simocephalus serrulatus, Moina micrura And Diaphanosoma birgei. For species of temperate regions, data already available in the literature will be used. The sensitivity of these species will be tested against the chlorpyrifos insecticide, widely used in agriculture around the world. Cultures and toxicity tests will be carried out according to the methodology described in the standard national protocols recommended for tests with cladoceran species of the genus Ceriodaphnia and Daphnia.
