Abstract

The aim of this project is to analyze aspects of information mediation in European Union countries, especially Spain, to identify and understand how the concept is practically worked in these countries in educational units focusing on groups with cultural specificities of reading the world. Amid different discussions about mediation approaches in Information Science (CI), there is a gap that impacts on possible extensions and applications of this concept. The aim is approach a broader context of analysis of information mediation and the understanding of how groups with cultural specificities can be benefited or harmed by mediation of the reading the world, understanding the role of educational units in this regard, and especially the Science of Information. The research will be composed of two stages of data collection: bibliographical and ethnographic, carried out with the support of the University of Salamanca (USAL) in Spain, with a total duration of one year. The ethnographic stage will follow the orientation of Symbolic Interactionism, a dynamic approach with assumptions that involve aspects of meaning, symbology, and importance of social interactions. The analysis of the bibliographic results will be anchored in Discursive Textual Analysis, and the reports will be described based on phenomenology. It is believed that this research will enable the (CI) area to integrate discussions and investigations in different spaces (European and Brazilian), and will strengthen the already signed partnerships between the São Paulo State University 'Júlio de Mesquita Filho' / FAPESP / University of Salamanca.
