The study of tumor microenvironment is extremely important for understanding the individual immune response to neoplastic cells. Immunotolerance is a physiological mechanism by which the immune system self-regulate, by inhibiting the effector cell response, making it difficult for immune response initiation. This mechanism inhibits the development of autoimmune diseases, controlling and modulating chronic inflammation. Immature dendritic cells, regulatory T cells and numerous immunosuppressive cytokines and chemokines such as IL-10 and MIP3 alpha play a central role in this context. However, it is known that some tumors, especially those which have a viral etiological factor involved are capable of inducing an immunotolerant environment, thus inhibiting the immune response effectively preventing the recognition and destruction of neoplastic cells. Some studies have reported the existence of tolerant microenvironment in neoplastic lesions of the cervix associated with HPV. Given the above, the aim is to analyze the microenvironment of potentially malignant lesions and oropharyngeal carcinomas related to HPV or not, for the presence of immature dendritic cells, FOXP3 + regulatory T cells and expression of MIP3 alpha.
