Abstract

The reduced energy expenditure of an inactive lifestyle and a high-calorie intake has led the society to develop diseases such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2), insulin resistance and obesity. Studies involving the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) deserve attention due to the association between the actions of angiotensin II (Ang II) and the pathogenesis of obesity of DM2. More recently, the discovery of a different axis comprising ACE2 (homologous ACE enzyme, which converts Ang II to Ang 1-7), Ang 1-7 peptide and the receptor Mas (ACE2 / Ang 1-7 / Mas) showed an opposite relationship with the negative metabolic effects of SARS. Aerobic exercise training (AET) has been widely used for the prevention and the treatment of metabolic diseases, and some of the benefits obtained with AET are from adaptations in skeletal muscle. In this project, we intend to evaluate if the protective effect of AET against metabolic disorders is mediated by activation of the ACE2 axis / Ang 1-7 / Mas in skeletal muscle. So, sedentary and trained male mice will be used, fed with control diet and cafeteria. (AU)
