Abstract

Nonlinear control surface effects can modify the aeroelastic dynamics during a flight. In particular, control surface friction and freeplay can change the stability behavior which can imply in restrictions in a flight envelope. In this context, this research involves the study of aeroelastic gust responses in a three degrees of freedom typical section considering friction and freeplay acting on the flap. Time domain analysis is performed using the Hénon's technique for numerical integration. The results show how important it is to consider these nonlinear effects to compute gust reponses in an aircraft design. (AU)
