The state of São Paulo is the country's largest grape producer for about 14.6% of the national production. The main planted variety is 'Niagara Rosada' (Vitis labrusca L.) because of its rusticity and market acceptability. However, the climate of the producing region favors the occurrence of grapevine rust caused by Phakopsora euvitis, which causes a decrease in production and impairment of subsequent crops, which makes its control necessary. The control has been made with preventive pulverizations and, in general, with a great number of fungicide applications, which causes damages to the production and the environment. The thematic project, in which is inserted this proposal, has as main objective to understand the epidemic process of this disease in order to propose management alternatives that reduce the excessive use of fungicides. Knowing that, for an understanding of the epidemiology of grapevine rust, the knowledge of the patosystem is fundamental, histopathological analyzes under light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of the interaction between the fungus Phakopsora euvitis and leaves of Vitis labrusca L. 'Niagara Rosada' were initiated by the proponent in 2015. However, due to the tiny dimensions of fungus structures, such analyzes were not sufficient for the understanding of the colonization process and the subcellular changes resulting from infection. Therefore the proposal is to analyze this interaction under the transmission electron microscope. (AU)
