Abstract

Various insulating polymeric materials on the market are used to produce packages for electronic components, but these materials accumulate static electricity and can cause serious damage to the electronic components. Several alternatives can be used to increase the surface and volumetric conductivity of insulating polymers, especially the addition of functional fillers (as carbon filler) or the addition of an intrinsically conductive polymer. In this Project a new alternative will be used to obtain these properties, the use of carbonaceous material that is the glassy carbon. This project aims to produce an antistatic package that will be developed by the preparation of low density polyethylene (LPDE) and glassy carbon (GV) on the molten state. Glassy carbon has excellent electrical properties and may increase the electrical resistivity of LDPE providing good anti-static characteristics. The methodology of the project provides for the preparation of LDPE composites with different glassy carbon contents in the molten state and the thermal, mechanical, morphological and electrical characterization of the composites.
