Despite its advantages, the spouted bed has presented several limitations that prevent its application on an industrial scale and has been motivating the study and application of different configurations and geometries, as well as the use of different processing methodologies. As the main problems from the industrial point of view, the restrictions on the processing capacity and the energy issues of the equipment stand out, which attribute to the spouted bed a low efficiency and high energy consumption. In order to overcome the problems described, the use of the draft tube, a heat recovery system and the intermittent methodology are alternatives that have not been explored in the spouted bed and combined may represent a promising solution for the application of the equipment in the industrial sector. Thus, the aim of this project is to develop and optimize, through modeling and Pinch analysis, a spouted bed with a heat recovery system of the exhaust air, to be operated with the combination of intermittent methodology and with the insertion of draft tubes. In order to carry out the proposed project, an experimental unit will first be constructed and dimensioned following the standards established in the DEQ / UFSCar Drying Center. Four different configurations will be evaluated in relation to the insertion of draft tubes (impermeable, porous, open sides and without draft tube) and three different materials will be characterized and used in the experiments: alumina, soybean and barley. Three different regimes will be applied in the drying experiments: spout, fixed / spout and fixed / pulse. In principle, for the mathematical modeling of the drying process it is intended to use the two-phase model. To verify the energy performance of the designed equipment will be employed the Pinch analysis and the estimation of quantitative parameters. The aim is to obtain an equipment that is energy efficient and has characteristics that make its industrial application viable and suitable. (AU)
