Abstract

The following project aims to understand the relation between discursive genres, means of circulation and presumed public through research on the interrelation between language and culture, specifically, by taking as object the oral statements of scientific divulgation in digital media. It is understood here that the internet is the primary means of dissemination of information globally today and that the genres of scientific divulgation are adaptable to the prevailing social and ideological situation in determined synchronic frame, because it has as feature a greater focus on their interlocutor. For this purpose, it will be used the concepts defined by the Bakhtin circle, whose members understand language not only as a closed and immanent system, but instead in relation with culture, ideology and the socio-historical reality in which it is produced, by means of study of texts and statements in dialogical relation amongst each other, forming a discursive chain of the most varied genres. The concepts will illuminate a comparative analysis of scientific divulgation videos from two countries, namely Brazil and the United States, addressing the use of reported speech to introduce the voice of science in the text and how the digital media and the public presumed by the videos influence their way of construction, both in the verbal language utilized and in the choice of visual elements, such as charts, images and graphs.
