Abstract

The bio-psycho-social model describes functionality as the relation between the body functions and structure, the capacity of accomplishing activities and social participation. Thus, in order to plan interventions successfully it is necessary to understand how health/sickness conditions and system impairments affect functional capacities and social participation, as well as how to identify their relations. Therefore, the present study aims to verify the sensory profile of children and adolescents with Down syndrome, as well as its relation with the motor performance and with the participation in home context. Children and adolescents with Down syndrome and typical development, with ages between 7 and 13 years will participate in this study. The sensory profile will be measured by the Sensory Profile questionnaire, the motor development by GMFM - Gross Motor Function Measure and home participation by CHORES - Children Helping Out: Responsibilities, Expectations and Supports scale. The descriptive results will be given by 'measure/mean???' and standard deviation. Comparison between groups and the relation between variables will be measured by tests adequated to the normality of data distribution. For all analyses will be adopted a significance level of 5% (p<0,05). With the results of this study, it will be possible to facilitate clinical interventions that approach biopsychosocial aspects of the development of children and adolescents with Down Syndrome. (AU)
