Abstract

This proposal is associated to the Health Division for The Center for Development of Functional Materials (CDFM / CEPID / FAPESP 2013 / 07296-2) and has the general objective to develop a new generation of bio-multifunctional titanium dioxide surfaces for dental implants in order to obtain biologically selective surfaces while promoting proper adhesion of osteoblastic cells while minimizing the potential colonization by undesired microorganisms together with high corrosion resistance and tribocorrosion. The tailoring of surface involves a large number of experimental procedures level of modification of surfaces and interfaces to study the interactions between the bulk and surface modifier. These may promote improved resistance biocorrosion the material and increase the bioactivity of oxides, with promising results in the interaction with the tissue, since the biocompatibility is determined by chemical processes occurring in the interface between the prosthesis and the living tissue. The biological performance of these materials and other properties such as resistance to biocorrosion, chemical resistance, and bioactivity can be improved by modifying their surfaces, wherein the metallic oxides have shown good results in the interaction with proteins, which is the initial process for an interaction the biological environment to the material.
