Abstract

During the bone repair process, about 5 to 10% of cases can culminate in an abnormal consolidation process and result in a delay in bone union or non-union. Once this framework is installed, it can generate losses in the quality of life of these individuals, high morbidity and mortality rates and high costs to the health system. Thus, it is necessary to investigate treatments that present osteogenic potential and that have the capacity to accelerate the process of bone repair. Among these resources, it is possible to show the application of biomaterials, for example, bioactive materials, such as bioglass and the use of other materials such as collagen. In addition, photobiomodulation is also widely used to accelerate bone metabolism and the association of this resource with biomaterials has been investigated by some authors. However, there are no studies demonstrating the use of these associated features in the bone repair process. In this way, the objective of the present study is to evaluate, through an in vivo study, the effects of these composites, associated or not with photobiomodulation, in the repair of critical defects induced in the skull cap of rats. For this, 60 Wistar rats will be used, submitted to the surgical procedure to perform the bony defects in the cranial calotte and randomized in 6 groups: Control; PBM group; BG; BG and PBM; BG / Col and BG / Col and PBM. The animals will be euthanized 45 days after the bone defects. The following analyzes will be performed: histopathological, morphometric and immunohistochemical analysis. (AU)
