Abstract

This project proposes to analyse the sound and its characteristics in Ozualdo Candeias' film A Herança (1970) to investigate if the use of sounds and silences reflects a state of crisis in the parameters of representation. This crisis is here understood as a kind of rupture with the traditional model and as a search for new paradigms which include rearrangements of the sound dynamics and the incorporation of technical precariousness as an expressive force. The analysis will propose a dialogue with the book "The Sound in Brazilian Cinema", by Fernando Morais da Costa, in which the author traces, through the sound perspective, aesthetic characteristics and technical aspects that cross the Brazilian cinema from the silent to the contemporary period. Also, this research intent to contribute to the sound studies in Brazilian cinema. (AU)
