The ear is the component essential for the hearing, because he is one of the aspects that provide important information for human development. Listening is a skill refined that the individual has, it is through him that the newborn comes into contact with the sound in with structure of the language, and its development starts in intrauterine life (CURSO, 2010). The prematurity is one of the factors that interfere significantly with the acquisition and development of language and cognition, especially in the first years of life (ZERBETO; CORTELO; son, 2015; LAMÔNICA; PICOLINI, 2009; ZERBETO; CORTELO; Son, 2015). The potential auditory evoked potentials are methods neurophysiological greater application in cognitive research (REIS e FRIZZO, 2015). Objective: to evaluate the auditory function of preterm born children through the brainstem auditory evoked cortical bone. Method: This is a descriptive and analytical, cross-sectional. Participants in the study 30 babies of both genders aged 0 to 12 months and 12 months to 24 months, they will be divided into two groups. Group 1 consists of 15 babies born pre-term and group 2 consists of full-term babies. The brainstem auditory evoked cortical and will be applied the scale ELM for evaluation of language. (AU)
