Abstract

Socioemotional and career competences are associated with gains in various areas of life, including academic and professional. In contemporary times these competences are considered important for human development and success in the face of the demands of the world of work. This study aims to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of socioemotional and career competences in the school context, between Brazilian and Portuguese high school students. The Brazilian sample is composed of 158 adolescents from the first grade of high school (data already collected) and the Portuguese sample will be made up of about 158 adolescents, also from the first grade of high school. The instrument used to assess socio-emotional competencies in the school context will be the Social and Emotional or Non-cognitive Nationwide Assessment (SENNA), an instrument of self-report that assesses the social-emotional competences of students of basic education. Career competences will be assesses through the Career Education Questionnaire (CEQ), which assesses knowledge, skills and attitudes in high school students. The comparison between the groups will be performed through the student t test for independent samples. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the production of knowledge about cultural differences in relation to those competencies and to the development of more comprehensive career education interventions.
