Abstract

Micropattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGD) are a recent technology, completely new in Brazilian research institutions. The popularity of these detectors has been growing thanks to their intrinsic simultaneous position and energy resolution capability. Thanks to thesse features, these detectors compete directly with other detection concepts, in application requiring large detection areas, such as the study of art pieces and historical artifacts by X Ray Fluorescence Imaging. This Master thesis proposes to take advantage of the position resolution capability of an MPGD - the Thick-GEM - designed in HEPIC@USP and produced in São Paulo, for the construction of an imaging system for X Ray Fluorescence.
