Abstract

This research project is dedicated to mapping the discussions on housing and city in Latin America through the research in the journal El Arquitecto Peruano, as part of a group of inquiries linked to research "Cities and ideas: Latin America as a problem for the history of the city and urbanism: Lima, Bogota and Sao Paulo (1940-1970)", developed at FAU USP. We emphasize here the South-South dialogues that were established in the Second post-war, seeking to identify the issues that informed the discussions on the "Latin American cities" as a category of social thought and urban life. In seeking to rebuild local networks whose performances have contributed at first to formulate proposals and subsequently to discuss the problems arising from the modernization process, an attempt is made here to identify constants but also peculiarities that advance understanding of the reasons for this category. And it contributes to the history of Latin American cities. (AU)
