Abstract

In recent years it has increased scientific interest in broadening our knowledge of transsexuality to areas beyond the biomedical discourse, which for decades has remained hegemonic. The biomedical perspective has received sharp criticism on the part of scholars from different disciplines of the humanities, the insistence on pathologizing character and conviction that the transsexual person is moved by an irrepressible desire to seek adequate gender only be completed by the completion of sexual reassignment surgery. For transsexual person, the discovery of sexed body and the experience of having a penis or vagina and are unable to perform according to the genre conceived socially, configure discoveries that have repercussions throughout life. So, turn the diversity of possible constructions of gender identity in a medical issue is considered at least a step backwards in relation to the knowledge produced. This study, by giving voice to their own trans people so that they narrate their life stories, aims to contribute as a critical counterpoint to the pathologizing idea imposed by biomedical discourse to catalog such individuals in a manual of psychopathological categories. In addition, few studies addressing the relationship of the transsexual person with your body, and even scarcer those investigating this issue from the perspective of MtF (man-to-female) and FtM (female-to-man) in various stages of the life cycle. Based on these assumptions, it has is to investigate the perceptions that MtF and FtM have of their bodies, focusing on the relationship established from childhood to adulthood. Specific objectives we have: (a) investigate the understanding that transsexual people have their bodies simultaneously to transsexuals process; (b) to analyze the similarities and differences in the subjective appropriation of corporeality and transsexuals process in MtF and FtM; (c) investigate the body's perception of similarities and differences before and after starting the process transsexuals. This is a qualitative study, cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory. The theoretical framework to be adopted is queer theory, which provides a possibility of original reading on the transsexual condition, mainly to challenge the heterosexual matrix that postulates the binarity of sex and gender, and also the alleged agreement/alignment between anatomy, gender, sexual desires and practices. Participants will be one transsexual MtF (man-to-female) and one FtM (female-to-man). Data will be collected through a form of socio-demographic data, field diary and semi-structured interviews with issues relative to the path of life and experience of bodily transformation processes. Interviews will be conducted individually, in situation face to face, over a maximum of four meetings, as needed, and audio recorded with the authorization of the participants. After collecting data, the recorded content will be transcribed verbatim and in full. Subsequently, the data will be submitted to a process of thematic content analysis that occurs in three stages: (a) pre-analysis, preliminary organization of the material constituting the corpus of analysis; (b) analytical description, categorization of data by the similarity of content, creating themes for later assignment of meanings; (c) referential interpretation, data processing and interpretation of the meanings of the thematic content in accordance with the theoretical framework adopted. The development of this study is supported by Resolution No. 466 of 12 December 2012. This project will be submitted to the Ethics Committee of the institution headquarters. (AU)
