Management of Historic Neighborhoods, Cultural Heritage and urbanity

Abstract

The Project is a continuation of the research realized since 2012, involving the relations between Heritage Preservation Policies and Urban Development Policies, allowing the continuity of ongoing projects, focusing on the relation between urban management and heritage in the context of London. The professional and academic experiences showed gaps in the process of safeguarding Cultural Heritage, perceived through the main research questions: How to enable urban development from the preexistences? How to articulate Heritage Preservation and urban management? How to fund the rehabilitation of listed buildings, which in São Paulo today sum approximately 3600 buildings, being 90% of private property?The research, to be developed in London with prof. Michael Ball and the University of Reading, involving the in depth observation in two institutions "Historic England" and "Heritage Lottery Fund" and a chosen City Planning Office, with the aim of contribute to the production of knowledge on the possible articulations between Urban Development and Preservation, the funding of rehabilitation and preservation of listed buildings, in order to contribute to the formulation of more effective public policy of heritage preservation, by means of case study analysis.
