Abstract

This research project intends to study and analyze the period known as "the last Stanislavski" (1935 - 1938). In this period, Konstantin Serguéievitch Stanislavski held the Opera-Drama Studio in his house. This study aims at selecting and translating Stanislavski's writing from the above mentioned period, all still unpublished in portuguese. In 1935 a governmental decree created the Opera-Drama Studio, due to be settled in the house Stanislavski lived. The Studio was formed by more than 50 teachers and almost twice the number of pupils, and was directed by Stanislavski himself. Here, the master's work turns into a completely innovative and experimental one, focusing at reviewing and syntethizing his life-long accumulated scenic experience (1863 - 1938). Among the innovations proposed by Stanislavski at this period figure the so-called "new rehearsal order", composed by the action analysis and the physical actions methods.Despite the great amout of material on the period available in russian (classes' transcripts and Stanislavski's own essay drafts, to mention some), the portuguese language reader stills lacks information on the referred subject. We only know about the work at the Opera-Drama Studio by a very reduced amount of translations of his pupils' works. Yet, the great quantity of unpublished material at the Moscow Art Theatre's files is very significative. There has been, among researchers in Brazil, a growing intererest on Stanislavski's work, but even though, this study's period has not yet been explored. In this way, this projects hopes to contrbute to spreading the contact of the portuguese-language reader with Stanislavski's own writings of the period through translating from russian a selecton of unpublished material on his Dramatic Art lessons at the Opera-Drama Studio. Still, another of this study's goal is to analyse and understand the fundamental concepts guiding the russian master's work then. (AU)
