Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, so the identification and understanding of the factors that lead to patient preference as to their place of death and the actual place of death is crucial for better planning of assistance to these patients. Ideally, the patient would die in your preferred location, that his desire to be respected. For health services, meet these preferences is an essential proposal, part of the quality of care and a final measure of success in the proposed therapy from the palliative treatment to assist the family caregiver in the post-death period. This research proposal is of great relevance at the national level, it will be investigated a subject not yet explored in Brazil, specifically in the area of oncology and is feasible to generate proposals for improvement in public health policies. Objective: To evaluate the percentage of cancer patients who die at the sites of their preferences. Methods: Cohort study, longitudinal, with prospective data collection. The research will be conducted on Pius XII, Cancer Hospital of Barretos Foundation. Patients in palliative care and palliative care in exclusive, as well as their family caregivers will be included in the study. The sample is composed of 2994 participants, which will be evaluated in two stages, with stage 1 during the patient treatment period and step 2 in a period of 6 to 24 months after the interview in step 1. Expected results: It is expected identify the preference of the place of death of Brazilian cancer patients and this preference has been met and propose more effective measures that can meet the patients, their family caregivers as well as better target care planned institutions and health professionals. It is expected to propose measures to improve the planning of the public health system as the death process of cancer patients. (AU)
