Evaluation of Candida spp biofilm in the presence of fluconazole and nystatin, isolated from dental prostheses patients of clinic dentistry of a university of West Paulista

Abstract

Candida spp. biofilm formed on removable denture surfaces is considered the main etiologic factor of candidosis, being the C. albicans the most frequent specie found in this condition. However, non- Candida albican may account for up to 50 % cases of candidiasis and denture stomatitis. This study aim to evaluate the biofilm of Candida species isolated from patients denture, treated at dental clinic at the Universidade do Oeste Paulista (UNOESTE), formed on polymethylmethacrylate resine, treated with fluconazole and nystatin. Quantification of biofilm will be performed by colony-forming units counts (CFU / mL), and metabolic activity observed by colorimetric assay reduction tetrazolium salts - XTT. Statistical analysis will be performed by Bioestat software (version 5.3), and the results will be analyzed by mean +/- standard deviation, and subjected to Kruscal-Wallis test (UFC/mL). The Mann-Whitney test will be applied to indicate differences between the control and experimental groups, then the values found in the colorimetric assay evaluated by analysis of variance (ANOVA).
