Abstract

This project was elaborated for the Research Internship Abroad Program (BEPE) for a six-month period at the Western Sydney University. Such internship shall contribute with the advancement of my master's research, currently being developed at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), which aims to collaborate with studies concerning creativity, transformation, authorship, property and gender in the field of ethnology of the South American lowlands. The main goal of this research is to study how audiovisual language has been appropriated by women of different Xinguano peoples through workshops offered by the Catitu Institute, a very recent event in this region. In order to contribute to the analysis of such phenomenon and the corresponding ethnographic material, derived from fieldwork conducted during 2016, I seek through this internship the supervision of Professor Juan Francisco Salazar, who is widely experienced with indigenous media production and its developments in anthropological theory. I intend to examine comparative literature and ethnographic material to be able to analyze such processes enlightened by different contexts of indigenous media production: both in other Latin-American contexts (among the Mapuche people of Chile, about whom Salazar´s studies have focused) and in the Australian Aborigine context (where indigenous art and media are phenomena of a much larger scale than in Brazil).
