Abstract

This proposal is part of the research conducted by Prof. Sofia Nikolaou, which gathers the supramolecular chemistry as a research front of work in her research group. Thus, we intend to study extended structures based on the combination of the [Ru3O] unit with ligands of the naphthalimides class (NI). The proposal is unprecedented since there are no reports to date of the combination of electroactive unit [Ru3O]n with NI photoactive ligands. This particular project proposes the synthesis, purification and characterization of the monomeric structures [Ru3O(OAc)6(NI)3PF6, [Ru3O(OAc)6(NI)2(py)]PF6 and [Ru3O(OAc)6(py)2(NI)]PF6 (NI = naphthalimide; py = pyridine), which will be studied as model complexes of extended structures. Since there are no studies in the literature related to the combination of the trinuclear ruthenium carboxylates and NI ligands, we intend to develop new synthetic routes and purification to obtain the structures. The choice of trinuclear ruthenium carboxylate and naphthalimides is based on the properties exhibited by each species, i.e., electronic, electrochemical, photophysical and thermal stability were some of the reasons to choose the set.The novel complexes will be characterized by techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, absorption in the UV-visible region and infrared and luminescence, and electrochemical experiments die as cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse.
