Abstract

Introduction: In the present time, there is an increase in life expectancy in this country. Therefore, it is important to know and understand the needs of the elderly population. Hearing loss is a common problem associated with aging, accompanied by deficits in binaural skills often responsible for the difficulties communication. The Auditory Middle Latency Response has proved a very useful tool for central auditory evaluation in the elderly and allows an analysis of binaural auditory function in cortical level. The objective of this project is to investigate the responses of auditory evoked potentials of average latency, analyze and compare the monaural stimulation and binaural in the elderly. Method: This is a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. A pre-collection procedure will be carried out to learn basic audio logical evaluation to determine the audio metric thresholds and thus be able to divide the subjects into 2 groups. Group 1 (G1) consisted of 20 individuals of both genders, aged 60 in healthy condition, without any hearing loss. Group 2 (G2) consisted of 20 individuals of both genders that are 60 years old in healthy condition, with thresholds ranging from 30 to 70 dB HL in the frequencies of 4 to 8kHz. We will collect the recordings with the use of Biologic's equipment. Evoked Potential System (EP) of two channels with monaural stimulation (right ear then left ear) and binaural (simultaneous stimulation in both ears) will obtain the binaural interaction effect. We can carry out the analysis and comparison of responses obtained with monaural stimulation and binaural in both groups. For this, we made a descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis and discussion of results. (AU)
