Abstract

The use of triple photoinitiators systems, in which diphenyl iodonium hexafluorophosphate (DPHIF) is added to the canphorquinone/amine system, can result in a substantial increase in the degree of conversion and the mechanical and biological properties. This study aims to characterize through degree of conversion and biocompatibility analyses experimental adhesive systems containing photoinitiators systems canphorquinone/amine and canphorquinone/amine/DPHIF salt associated with 10-MDP, photoactivated with a conventional LED device or a broad spectrum one. This study will evaluate three factors: photoinitiator system (in two levels), concentration of 10-MDP (in three levels) and curing unit device (in two levels). Two response variables will be studied: degree of conversion and biocompatibility. Experimental adhesives will be prepared containing canphorquinone/amine or canphorquinone/amine/DPIHP as photoinitiators and three different concentrations of 10-MDP (0%, 3% or 12%). The degree of conversion will be evaluated by FTIR-ATR. The biocompatibility will be evaluated by testing the cell viability, MTT, crystal violet and scanning electron microscopy. Experimental adhesives will be photoactivated with two devices: broad spectrum LED curing unit and a conventional LED curing unit. The data will be analyzed by analysis of variance and possible correlations will be performed by linear and non-linear regression (± = 0.05).
